5th GRADE SCIENCE
December 18th, 2007We are now focusing on Ecosystems. We are learning on what organisms lives in a certain ecosystem. right now we are doing tarrariums and aquariums. The animals that are living in these are tadpoles and beetles.
6th Grade Science with Mrs. Finley
November 5th, 2007This year in Science our class has been learning all about Motion! We have made it through
our first Science kit. We completed many investigations and experiments. Some of them
were:Learning the Scientific Method. We investigated the differences between observations
and infrences. We’ve also been learning size, mass, and shape. Even measured speed from
an incline. We learned that variables change! Now we now about friction differences
between ice and gravel. Ask us how to use a spring scale because now we Know. Balanced
forces counter eachother while unbalanced forces show the effect of motion. For the next
two weeks we are creating roller coasters for moto to ride on. We will begin our next kit
around November 15.

we are now currently working on elctricity stuff.
7A + 7B SCIENCE
October 24th, 2007we are starting EARTH SCIENCE! we are learning about earthquakes and volcano eruptions. earthquakes and volcano eruptions happen because tectonic plates beneath the earth shift and that is what causes earthquakes and erupting volcanoes.
we finished our powerpoints and are presenting
them today in computers class at 1:30 p.m
remember, daily sciences are DUE THURSDAY
OUR VOLCANO TEST IS ON 1/15/08 TODAY
8th grade ice experiment
October 19th, 2007Well we just got done with another great experment about water temps with ice and warm water. You would fill a graduated cylider with 100 milliters of room temperature water. Then you will fill another 100 militers in a beaker then put 6 ice cubes and measure the temp of the water after you stir the water. Then you pour the cold water into the warm water then measure the tempeture and see how much the water temp dropped after you stir the water for about a minute. Then write down your results in a table and do this a couple more times to be accurate in your experment.
The students ran and completed this lab on their own. Since they are in eigth grade this year they will be working more independently. This lab reinforce using the Scientific Method.
We will be taking the MEAP test next week on the 10-23 -10-25.
8 th Grade Science
October 1st, 2007In science class this year we have been doing some really interesting things. Which inculdes we haved learned about the scientific method , and have used it in some of our experiments. One of these experiments is the Soda experiment .We tested different houshold item that made the soda bubble. During this experiment the laundry detergent bubbled the longest. We tested sugar, salt, pepper, laundry detergent, and flour. All of the others didn’t bubble for that long , but still it was a blast.
we are doing chapter 4: chemistry next!
This week we did this really different but still neat measuring activity. You had to measure all this different items. Once you where done measuring things like width of the white board the length of the hallway and a bunch of other things. You moved onto milliters and cm cubed .We also used the graduated cylinder that measured the volume of objects. We used the water displacement method where you drop something into it ,and see how much the water raised or if it raised at all. We just got done with our first chapter so we are reviewing and getting ready for our 1st chapter test.
The 8th grade will take the Science MEAP test on the 23rd and 24th of October.

7th Grade Science
September 19th, 2007Welcome to the Science web page… Our class will provide updates about what we are doing in Science. and although we are in science we use other subjects too, like math, reading and health. so we are more than just a science class we are the 7th grade.

Lizard Habitat
We have currently aqquired a new lizard by Davis Liscom. The lizard seems to be doing well. Throughout the three to four days that he has been here, he seems to like his new habitat. He is liking the tunnel we decided to give him! It is a leopard gekko, and he is apporxamently 6-9 inches long! They like to hide, which is why it is always in the tunnel! They mostly sleep diring the day, and are active at night! The gekko has no name yet, but if you have any ideas, please, leave a post, Thanks!!!

Aquarium Habitat
Unlike the lizard habitat we also have an aquarium habitat. There are lots of different kinds of fish. Along with colorful rocks and seaweed for scenery, the tank stays clean with an algae fish in the tank.If you were to tap the glass some of the fish will swim away while other fish don’t mind you. What else would you need? SNAILS!!!!! We have a lot of snails here in the tank. You should come in and see our amazing habitats! We look forward to having you in our science room.
Whats going on?
Biome/Habitat Research Project:Over the past two weeks we have been writing about are habitats weather, human interactions, and the environment. We also have been working on our habitat projects (which are in boxes). We have also been doing our food webs and food chains. The biomes we’ve been working on are forests, tide pool, arctic, wetland, coral reef, urban, prehistoric, desert, Michigan jack pine, and mountain.
Justin and Jesse say, ” we want to learn about the habitat and we like the animals.”
Josh said, ” I was out of my mind to show up everyone else by picking the hardest habitat.”
To put in your own quote, contact Jake P or Luke B.
This project will be due October 25!
Parent note:
The idea is to make a realistc looking habitat that includes plants, animals and scenery that realisticlly decribes the habitat chosen.Students may use plastic plants/animals, pictures of plants/animals, clay figures, ect. The materials used in the habitat box is only limited to your childs imagination (and budget). However, this project is not ment to cost you a thing except creativity. Please let Mrs. Finely know in advance if there will be any items your child can’t come up with. I will have a few extra boxes, ect. on hand. Mrs. Finely will be checking with the students to keep up with their projects and there will be some assignments sent home during this time.
HALLOWEEN
Also this month is October and we all know what happens in October…… HALLOWEEN!!! Every year the 7th grade (and all other grades) have a halloween party. Well, its that month.
